Q. grandma Rose- My baby just is getting teeth- any teething advice to help us? Any natural remedies for her pain?
-New Mommy

A. Poor Baby! I have few remedies that may help.

1. Put a little warm olive oil in the area where she is teething and it will sooth her pain.
2. You can dab your thumb in a little brandy and rub it on the area where she is teething.
3. Soak a wash cloth in water then freeze it. Once its frozen you can give it to her to chew on. (You may want to put little gloves on her hands so they don't get too cold).  It should numb the pain.

4. Rub a little piece of ginger root and it should help sooth the pain.

I hope one of these works for you, habibti! Good luck. let me know how it goes.

Q. Hi grandma Rose, I am looking for a facial treatment that is 100% natural. Do you have any ideas? –Kelli

A. Oh yes I do Habibti! When I was living in Egypt I would use my mother's homemade facial treatment. I still do, I never go to these silly spas. They put too much chemicals on the face-no good for you! Here is my homemade facial...ENJOY!

HOME FACIAL:
After you shower make yourself a natural scrub
Lemon Scrub:
Have a cup of fresh squeezed lemon juice
mix in 2 Tbsp of sugar
Then use this mixture as a scrub for your face
After the scrub
Use the inside of an (entire) orange peel and rub it all over your face!
Not only will your skin feel soft and smooth, your skin will have a slight citrus scent!

Q. Hi Grandma Rose. I have a huge problem with my 3 year old daughter. Every time she gets a cold, she has severe pain in her ears. Nothing I give her works. Any ideas to sooth her pain so she can have a full night sleep?    --Desperate Mommy.

A. Ah yes. I know exactly what your are going through, habibti. When my daughter Therese was a little girl she had the same problem. It was terrible! The best thing to do is do heat a tablespoon of Olive Oil over the stove for a few seconds. Once it is warm take a little piece of cotton and let it soak up the oil. Then put the cotton in your daughter's ear. I promise you she will sleep through the whole night! It worked for Therese and even my granddaughter Rosanna. But please make sure you use only Olive Oil-It's magic. Good luck, habibti!

Q. Grandma Rose I need to make a really good hummus. I am going to my boyfriend's parents house for a party, and he told her I could make authentic hummus (I lied and told him I could) I CAN'T. Help!!!!

A. Oh no, habibti. Never, never lie to Egyptian mother. They can tell if you are lying just by looking at you, but don't worry I will help. Here is my homemade Hummus recipe from scratch. Once you give this to his mother she will be so happy with you.

Grandma Rose's Homemade Hummus (from scratch!):

Get one pack of dried chick peas

Boil the pack in a pot for about 2 hours or so

Once cooked, pour out about 2 inches of the chick pea water and set aside. Then drain completely.

Place the chick peas in a food processor

Squeeze 1/2 of a lemon pour into the processor (don't forget to take the seeds out)

Add 3 0r 4 garlic cloves (peeled)

Add salt to taste

Add 1 Tbsp of Tahena sauce (sesame seed paste to the processor)

Add 3/4tsp of cumin

Add just a little bit of red pepper flakes (it gives it a good kick)

Add Olive Oil to taste and BLEND

If it is a little to dry or too thick add little bit of the chick pea water you set aside.

Once you have the consistency you like, pour it into a bowl.

Take  big spoon and make a little deep circle in the middle pour Olive Oil in the middle and sprinkle

a little flat leaf parsley in the middle and around the top of the Hummus-Just to give it some color.

Don't forget to bring fresh Arabic bread with the delicious Hummus to Egyptian mother.

Enjoy! Let me know how it goes!!

Q. Hi Grandma Rose, I recently had to cut down on my expenses since I my hours at work were cut back. So, no more waxing treatments. I hate this! My eyebrows and legs look horrible. Do you have any waxing treatments you could share with me?  --Yucky Kathy.

A. Habibti, I'm so sorry things are very difficult for you. I don't blame you for feeling bad, but there are some things you can do to stay beautiful without spending too much money. First you can make your own wax at home. Here is my special recipe for homemade wax.

HOMEMADE WAX:

5TSP of water

5TSP of sugar

5 drops of lemon juice

Melt together over low to medium heat

Once golden set aside to cool for a few minutes

Its should start to become a sticky consistency

Once completely cooled take out of pan and set on counter

Stretch out the sticky material for a little bit and then roll it into a ball

Place it flatly on the area where you want to remove the hair.

Pull in opposite direction very quickly.

You can reuse this sticky material as many times as you like!

This is very gentle on all skin types

**If you are not sure ask your doctor before you try it**

Q. Grandma Rose, I really need your help. My teenage daughter has very course, thick, curly hair and she HATES it. We have tried everything to make it look decent and nothing works. Now she wants to chemically straighten it. I don't think it’s a great idea. It will destroy her hair! Is there anything we can do to manage her frizzy curls????---Concerned Mommy.

A. I know exactly what you are going through. My daughter and my granddaughter both have curly hair. My granddaughter’s hair is terrible. When Rosanna was a little girl we had so many problems, until I gave her a hot oil treatment. here's what you do

HOT OIL TREATMENT FOR DRY, COURSE, OR CURLY HAIR:

Take a 1/4 cup of extra virgin olive oil

Heat it up for only 20 seconds or so

When you go to the shower wet the hair and place the oil on the hair

Comb it through

Shampoo, condition as usual

Do this once a week for 6 months and you will see the difference in your daughther's hair.

Good luck!
